How to create a Virtual Disk in Windows 7

How to Create a Virtual Hard Drive in Windows 7

Have you ever wished you had an extra Hard Disk to store files, share, or set aside as an encrypted vault? One of the new features in Windows 7 is the ability to create Virtual Hard Disks and we’ll show you how.
Create a Virtual Drive
This process creates virtual disks in the .VHD format where the minimum size is 3MB. To begin, Right-click on My Computer and select to Manage. Alternately you can type diskmgmt.msc into the Start search box and enter.
1-vhd
The Computer Management screen opens click on Disk Management then Action and Create VHD.

Browse to the directory you want the disk to reside, choose the size you want it to be, and select dynamic or a fixed. If you want the disk to expand in size as you add files to it, then pick Dynamically expanding. Check Fixed size if you want a specific size and for it to stay that way.

In Disk Management you will see the virtual drive listed as unallocated space.

To begin using it you’ll need to Right-click and select Initialize Disk.

In the initialize disk box just keep MBR selected and hit OK.

Create a Volume
Now it is time to create a volume by Right-clicking the unallocated space and select New Simple Volume.

The New Simple Volume Wizard starts up and it’s just a matter of completing it.

Choose the amount of space you want to use for the volume.

Assign it a dive letter that is not currently being used.

Format the new volume as NTFS, FAT32, or FAT. Check if you want a quick format and file compression.

The wizard is complete, click on Finish.

If you have AutoPlay enabled it should pop up for you to open up your new virtual hard disk.

It will be listed with the other disks in Disk Management.

Of course you will also see it listen under My Computer.

This is a cool new feature that will let you use the disk as you would any type of real disk. You can encrypt it, share it out to other systems, store files to it…however you would use an extra disk connected to your system.

This is a cool new feature in Windows 7 that will add extra functionality and options to your current system. There are several ways you can use your VHD including making it bootable. If you have used your geek imagination and have come up with unique ways to use a VHD, leave a comment to tell me about it.

DOWNLOAD NOKIA OVI STORE

Just download the above .sisx file from your PC or your S^3 phone and install. Confirm all prompts. When installing CHOOSE C:Drive. We would normally tell you to avoid this, but being one of the core apps, it needs to be there (and that’s where Nokia says to put it).
You may also apparently need additional middleware components. This means you may need to download over WiFi as it can be larger than 10mb. If you’ve got a good mobile connection and good bandwidth allowance, you’ll be fine to download directly from the phone.

'Wow! signal came from space '

An astronomer believes that the ‘Wow!’ signal received three decades ago, which is believed by many to be proof of alien life, may have come from an interstellar ‘lighthouse’.

The ‘Wow! signal’ was received at 11.16 pm on August 15, 1977 - the night before Elvis died - as a radio telescope in Ohio swept its gaze through the constellation of Sagittarius.

Since 1982, astronomer Robert Gray has been on a quest to solve the puzzle of the enigmatic blip in the read out of a radio telescope - the like of which has never been seen again since
Gray, who has just published a book about his attempt to rediscover the signal said he believes it could have come from an alien ‘lighthouse’.

The characteristics of the signal - a rise and fall in its ‘loudness’ were exactly what the alien-hunters had been told to look out for. Eighteen years previously, researchers had put themselves in the shoes of possible extra terrestrials and tried to work out the best way to attract our attention.

They decided that the most noteworthy signal would be a radio signal at exactly 1,420 MHz. This is the vibration frequency of hydrogen, the most common molecule in the universe.
Everyone agreed that it would be the most widely intelligible way of saying, ‘We’re here - are you?’ When the Wow! Signal came in, its frequency was 1,420 MHz.

With such a massive area of space to cover, the SETI programme had adopted the strategy of sweeping the sky with their radio receivers, meaning that they could only spend a few seconds looking at each spot.

They worked on the assumption they may find an alien ‘beacon’ or broadcast that was on all the time, and that all they would have to do is survey the sky to find it.

Gray, an economist by trade, believes the conventional search for an alien ‘beacon’ that is always transmitting is misguided.

Such a transmission would require vast amounts of energy to operate, the equivalent of thousands upon thousands of Earth-style power plants.
“They might use some other cheaper strategy - brief periodic broadcasting, a sweeping lighthouse beam, or other methods,” the Daily Mail quoted Gray as telling theatlantic.com.
“The people who do SETI, who are often but not always astronomers, have a mindset that it’s sensible to look for the really strong signal that is going to be there all of the time.

“Because my education is not in astronomy or engineering, it may be that I bring a kind of practicality to this, especially as it concerns the practicality and economics of what it takes to broadcast a signal like that,” he said.

His book, ‘The Elusive Wow’, published by Palmer Press, is out now.

My First Post : How to access WML/WAP sites (Mobile Content) on your PC

Quite often it happens so that you need to open a WAP(mobile)site on your PC.  When your PC  sends a protocol to the server on which the mobile site is hosted, the server gets to know the fact that the client who has sent a protocol requesting the access to the WAP site is in actual a desktop and not a hand-held device. So it denies the request and you can't open the WAP site on your PC.

Now, I am here with a way out to this problem.
You can easily access any WAP/WML mobile website on your PC/Laptop using the Mozilla Firefox Browser, the one you all would be familiar with.

Follow the simple steps stated below:

1) Log onto https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wmlbrowser/
2) Download the wmlbrowser 0.7.26 from the link i have provided above.
3) Once you're done with downloading the add on, restart the browser.
4) After restarting the browser, go to tools>add-ons>Extensions> Look for the wmlbrowser 0.7.26 extension and go to its options and 'check'  both the boxes.
5) Restart your browser again.
6) There you go .... Now you can open any WAP site on your PC.....
Give it a try ... Log onto wap.peperonity.com
